It gets too overwhelming when one grows so many different species. Not to mention the act of moving plants from spot to spot within the garden can dramatically alter their bloom dates. For me it requires just too much effort... though I totally agree with you that it is very worthwhile to do.

I was traveling across country to give a talk in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Fayetteville Arkansas, and I heard a report on public radio about a scientist studying bloom reports from gardeners in Great Britain who had kept tract of bloom times and other natural events like the first robin being sited. They noted that records for the last 40 years showed an average change of 15 days earlier for most phenomenon. Of course this is what is expected with global warming. Unfortunately some things are occurring more than two months ahead of schedule and other things only and week,so that the timing of events is being disrupted and there is a concern that the normal ecosystem is breaking down. I mention this not only to point out that if our group would take this project seriously, they could improve not only the knowledge of other gardeners but also ecologists. It astounds me that we seem to be incapable of doing something that is really worthwhile and that we could all take part in and yet could not be accomplished last year. Please reconsider. All those lurkers who never post anything, report on what is happening in your garden, and those of you that respond regularly put some dates on the bloom times of your plants. You can not only benefit all of us you may be able to help understand the changes that are occurring to our planet and help your grandchildren
