Are you looking at meristematic (actively growing) tissue like root tips or such? I think I remember (from decades ago) that that is where the chromosomes are the most organized into definable structures to get ready for cell division.

I am giving a program on irises for South Central Alaska in a few days to the Master Gardeners and I would like to include your photo (with photo credit, of course) when I talk about chromosome numbers in the various groups. Is that okay with you?
