Re: Dietes iridioides?

Dietes vegata is not an accepted name -- the conservatory should correct the label of their plant.  The flowers of D. iridoides and those of D. grandiflora are similar, but those of the former are smaller and last only one day, while those of the latter are larger and last 3 days.  Every D. grandiflora I've seen has black marks on the tepals of the outer whorl near the center, while I've never seen them on D. iridoides (but that's just the ones I've seen).

Subject: [iris-species] Dietes iridioides?

Blooming in the local conservatory. I don't know my Dietes, but this was labelled D. vegeta, which appears to be synonymous with D. iridioides. Smaller flowers (and thin wiry stems) compared to plants I've seen in landscaping down south, which I took to be D. grandiflora.
