Here is Goldblatts dichotomous key for Dietes.
There is only six species in the genus. Grandiflora is the only one
fitting this picture.

I just checked the on-line catalog
http://bnhm.berkeley.edu/query/index.php?ucbg=true&Genericname=Dietes&Country_standard=undefined&ViewResults=bigtable&Focus=View+Results
It shows 4 results for Dietes. There are 2 unidentified
species from Malawi, collected in 1991 and 1993. There are two
entries for Dietes grandiflora. Neither of these has a
collection date, but from the catalog numbers I believe they
entered the collection in 1953 & 1958; just because they have a
catalog number doesn't mean they are still growing, though they
may be. As I recall, there are maps of species locations in the
gift shop. If I remember next time I'm there, I'll check to see if
I can determine the catalog number of the plant I photographed.

 Ken,
ÂÂÂÂÂ It is like the petals are wider, and
the style arms are more erect. I wonder if it is a
hybrid, or a superior clone from within the species?

Last Sunday I was at the U.C. Botanical Garden in
Berkeley and saw a Dietes in bloom; photos
attached. I couldn't see a label. I have generally
assumed that the cultivated plant usually sold has Dietes
vegeta (now an invalid botanical name), is
really Dietes grandiflora, however the Dietes in
the botanical garden is more "grand" than they are.
