Yup. Ugly.
It's not even 8 am here and the sky is heavily
overcast so the image was lightened digitally. A better photo will be added
to the website later.
I've already harvested the anthers and slapped as
much pollen from mixed cristatas onto the blooms as I can. This bed is covered
to keep out rain (if we ever get any) and kitties so there's no chance of a
cross with anything else.
'Duckling' managed to combine the worst traits of
both parents. It hates sun and prefers damp soil with a nice layer of leaf
mulch or compost like its Mom. (Are you listening, Dennis?) Bloom is
oversized for the plant and as unremarkable as they come. Its only saving grace
is that it doesn't take up much room.
After 13 years, I still haven't seen a bloom on its
sibling. :-/
