Iris verna alba

First chance to look around since my first day home from Ireland.  It's been raining, or should I say dripping as the accumulation has only been 2 inches, except for Monday last. Anyway to my surprise, a little white iris I didn't recognize was blooming in my wild flower area. The sign says Iris verna. Now I've never had much success with verna and I didn't know I'd ever ordered a white one but it sure looks authentic though a little water soaked. There is another bud and I'll try to get a picture to send. I have a bunch of Iris cristata blooming and I. humilis is just finishing. I must have missed my Iris lacustris, also alba, as it usually is before cristata. Of course I have MDBs, SDBs and even a couple of IBs blooming. Did I mention how well my bearded iris are doing in a pure compost hill I made?        Joan Cooper, Roseville, Minnesota      Zone 4
