the iris that started it all

About 10 years I joined SIGNA. In 1998's seed exchange I was excited
about getting seeds of Iris longipetala. When they bloomed I was
disappointed to see they weren't legit!

Well that was the spark that motivated me to develop the Iris Species
Database. (It wasn't the only reason... not by a longshot... but it
was the final one that pushed me to do it.) For whatever reason my
iris had someone become mis-identified, and it was very frustrating.

I love this little "mystery" iris, and I've kept it as a
memento. It's little pink & white blooms cheer me up every spring
and remind me how much fun the seed exchange can be. (It's blooms
are VERY little... only about an 1.5 inches across.)
