Re: request for pollen

I have all of these , but will be in bloom far too late for you. I
haven't had seed pods on flavescences that I have noticed. I have
I. variegata reginea only a few feet from the flavescens. I can try
a few deliberate pollinations to see what happens.

Subject: [iris-species] request for pollen

Â
I had a discussion today with Milan Blazek of Poland who hybridizes
TBs. He was intrigued that I sometimes have fertility with Iris x
flavescens in my garden, because for him it is sterile.

He requested I cross it with another diploid bearded, such as pallida
or variegata. But I don't grow those. Could I beg some pollen from
somebody? My flavescens should start to bloom next week.

For me, flavescens produces normal pollen (on very small anthers) but
only rarely forms bee pods. Milan says he never heard of a flavescens
hybrid before... so he is encouraging me to try a cross with a 2n=24
diploid species that would give fertile offspring.

Thanks!
