Sisyrinchium sp.

I've tried growing about 6 to 10 types of Sisyrinchiums over the years. Most died within a year... 2 years at max. I tried different locations in the garden, to no avail. I even tried some wild collected ones from nearby fields but they croaked too.

Well yesterday I was weeding my back patio. (It's a neglected flagstone patio that has weeds growing up through all the cracks. Yeah, it is in dire need of being completely re-done.) Lo & behold there's a big fat clump of Sisyrinchium growing through the cracks underneath my patio table.. in fairly deep shade.

No way did I plant that there! It's nowhere near any place I had tried planting it before. And I just think it's funny (and infuriating) to find it there. And I'm so proud of myself that I recognized it before yanking it out! (It's not in flower yet.)

Of all those cultivated varieties I only have 1 clump that survived & thrived and it's in bud now. It's in full sun on the opposite side of the house from my patio. I'll post pictures soon.
