I can not claim great success, so my advice should be taken with a grain of salt. Many years ago when these first came out a fellow member of our Iris Society near Farmington, Missouri tried them. She told me she grew the seed under lights prior to spring and she had a huge row of it, it seemed about 50 plants. Everyone was different, and I was intrigued by the variation in color. I thought I might develop some color strains. But my success was poor trying them in several ways, under lights, outside, etc. This year, about 2 months ago, I sowed seed immediately as the pods ripened and I now have about twenty seedlings. I am very excited for the prospects. I also just made another sowing and will tell you if these germinate. If anyone is growing these plants I would love to get some information. Park's reports flower size as two inches. My memory would say they were always more like one inch. But I can remember visiting a bookstore that had a plant blooming in front that seemed to me to have 3 or 4 inch flowers. I am wondering whether this was nurture or nature. Certainly a large flowered strain would provoke a lot of interest. Has anyone seem plants with flowers this large? As far as a reccomendation I think seed will germinate under a variety of conditions but can also be miffy. I guess this is one Iris that grows in Florida!! It has been moved to the Genus Iris.
A lady I shared some Candy Lily seeds wants to know how to germinate them. Donât they need a cold period? Let me know so I can tell her.
