Re: Varda gorge species - I. macedonia?

it would be very well to know the source from where Will took
information I.macedonica is synonim for I.reichenbachii. When I
looked for all syn. of latter I did not found any more than
I.reichenbachii Heufell (syn. I.balkana Janka, I.bosniaca Beck,
I.serbica Pancic, I.scorpili Velenovsky). Koehlein in his book IRIS
put also as syn. I.athoa Foster. In the book "The World Of Irises" by
B.Warburton and M.Hamblen in page 15 under the heading STANDARD TALL
BEARDED in page 17 is put text:
"... I.macedonica Horvat is apparently in cultivation despite its
beeinga dissallowed name because of prior use. Collected by Horvat in
Jugoslavia in 1960. it closely resembles the familiar intermediate
hybrid Germanicas of horticultural distribution. Randolph in 1961
collected plants from Horvat's type locality and similar plants from a
location in the Pindus Mountains of northwestern Greece and
subsequently reported they were tetraploids of 2n=4x=48 chromosomes
(Warburton-Gantz 1970)".
Further Koehlein told I.macedonica Nadji (Charrel) is relative to
I.reichenbachii, but put not as synonim.
