It does indeed occur here- in fact Iris ×robusta was originally
described from studies in the Upper Peninsula near where the blue
flags overlap in range.

The authoritative botanical source for the state is Edward Voss'
Michigan Flora. He describes Iris virginica v. shrevei as occuring
throughout most of the Lower Peninsula (as far north as Cheboygan
Co.), as well as in Menominee Co. in the Upper Peninsula. Iris
versicolor occurs throughout the U.P. and is scattered in the northern
half of the Lower Peninsula as far south as Sanilac Co.

In other words, virginica is the only native iris in southern
Michigan. I suppose I should grab some local seed for the seed
exchange...
