Gesine,
Hort.net is an option, but we had to transfer the AIS group to Google Groups because AOL, Yahoo and Hotmail (and other Microsoft email services) had been bouncing mail from the hort.net mail servers (and many other servers as well).
That means any members of your group that have email addresses on those services might not get the mail.
Google groups has been a much better service.

Hi iris-species folk,
and a ps -- I was in error, to have groups.io transfer/copy a yahoo group now costs $110 (you sign the yahoo group up for a year of the paid service, then can go back to free service if you like). It's actually a lot of work to do that, so that sounds fair!
Note that the group's owner needs to start the transfer process. Gesine

This is all happening VERY soon - you won't be able to add new content after October 21, and all content will be deleted as of December 14. The group will at that point become an email-only entity. It would be nice to have the option of having web content and archives, either via hort.net or groups.io - Jean]
Hi all -- Yahoo is finally doing it -- they're shutting down yahoo groups. We moved our groups from yahoo to groups.io, last year, and have been VERY happy -- Groups.io was designed, and is run, by the person who originally designed yahoo groups way back when. It's very similar to the old yahoo groups, AND is even better. Free.
Just like yahoo groups, you can read a groups.io group, on its site, and/or read it as email. I suggest you transfer your group NOW, because what tends to happen is people wait til last minute, then there's a big backlog of yahoo groups wanting to be transferred. Last year (2018) when there was a flurry of moving-to-groups.io-from-yahoo-groups, groups.io was not able to copy some of the material from some yahoo groups, due to yahoo being weird -- So, if you have crucial materials on your yahoo group, perhaps in Files, it’s probably a good idea for you to copy them yourself! just in case. Alternatives to this kind of group, like having it on facebook, doing it in email, etc., aren’t as good, in my opinion – facebook is structured to promote short interactions and is heck on wheels to try to find information on. Groups.io groups are very clear, very easy to search for and find what’s there. Gesine
