more borer this time of year

Well the description of the pupae is exactly what I've had. One year I
used a slotted spoon in the soil because I was finding so many in a
patch of Louisianas that were being devastated by the beasts.

It was the Connecticut hybridizer Fred Gadd who told me there could be
more than one hatching of the creatures in a year so he didn't see how
one treatment could do it all. He also said that the moth flew more
like a long hop, long and low.

And this year I can add rabbits that think all siberians should have an
8" haircut to the list of varmints.
