Thank you Walter for your generous contribution of time to a significant cause. Thought we were going to slip a cog and lose a year on the seed exchange. Not to be !

Dear SIGNA members.
I guess it is official now, I am the new seed chair.  I thought about volunteering when the opening was first announced, but I really hoped someone else would take it.  But when it was mentioned that there might not be a seed sale this year, I realized I better speak up.  I concider the seed sale extremely important.
I am in central Kansas, over an hour's drive from an iris club.  I used to drive to Hutchinson or
Wichita for club meetings, but then the price of gas went up and my salary didn't.
I am just now sending this as I have been away from the internet for 4 days.  It used to not matter if I only checked in a couple of times a week.  I guess it will matter now.
My email is walterpickett@yahoo.com .
My phone # is 785 309 6447.
My address is
Walter Pickett
SIGNA seeds

People in the USA can start sending seeds now.  I will get busy with those while waiting for the paperwork for those in other countries.
Anyone who is willing to help out please contact me any way you want.  I prefer email as then I can go back and reread the message.
Walter

Emne: [iris-species] Announcing new seed exchange chair

Dear SIGNA members,
I'm happy to announce that SIGNA has finally found someone to chair the seed exchange. He is Walter Pickett, and I want to welcome him on board. Here is a little bit about him, in his own words:
First a few lines about myself.
I'm 64, generally in good health.
2 years grad school at Kansas State University in genetics.
3 years head of vegetable research in the Republique du Niger, Africa.
4 years research on breeding perennial grain crops at the Land Institute, Salina, Kansas.
Nearly 60 years experience gardening.
One of he founding members of the Central Prairie Seed Exchange, an organization for preserving fruit and vegetable varieties from Nebraska, Kansas, and Oklaholma.
I've grown eupogon iris since a teenager. Became interested in arils at about the same time. I have become interested in the non-bearded iris just few years go. I have imported adenium seeds, and had no trouble navigating the rules and forms.

This is Ken again. So you can see, Walter is well qualified to take this on for us. Since this is happening so late in our yearly cycle, there may still be some delays and inefficiency in this year's exchange, but there definitely WILL be one. We'll send out more information as things progress. Meanwhile, welcome to Walter!
