First irises opened yesterday - RASPBERRY JAM (SDB), I.germanica, and
BEING BUSY (SDB)
Not a good year to judge performance of anything (thank goodness!), but
BEING BUSY is making a huge clump so far, and very showy flowers. We
'normally' only have light frosts from here on out, so appear to have
escaped the killer March freeze for this year.
I. germanica still remains an all time favorite - if it weren't frozen
out of bloom so often, I probably would never have grown anything else.
Such gorgeous, lustrous colors... It continues to thrive under the
eaves of my house where it gets deluged with rain (no gutters) and
buried under leaves from surrounding trees, never divided, probably
about 4 hrs of direct sun.
Buds everywhere...also weeds, providing haven for bug predators that
have about finished off the aphids.
