Cult:Color Problems

Although I have not bought irises under the Better Homes & Gardens label, I 
did buy roses under that label in 98.  Three of four were misnamed.  John F. 
Kennedy was the only correct one and is was puny and appears to be the only 
one that didn't make it thru the winter just past.  

I've drawn some rather broad conclusions in regard to packaged irises in the 
local Marts.The only one I have that turned out true to name is EDITH 
WOLFORD, and I'm still wondering, "How did THAT happen?"  

The scenario that works for me goes something like this.  The mass grower has 
been told or assumes people buy irises by color and they lump all 
white/whatever irises together in the fields.  The distributor says, "We need 
a name on this."  The grower takes a stroll thru a Schreiner's/Cooley's 
catalog, or asks grandma who knows everything about irises, causes she grows 
dozens.  

When looking thru the catalog, the first white iris seen is LACY SNOWFLAKE.  
The namer says, "Hey, there's a nice white iris.  That's close enough!"  
Unfortunately, iris people grow irises and we know LS does not have a RED 
beard.  Nice try.  

GLAZED GOLD is probably DEBBY RAIRDON.  However, the bloom time stated in the 
R & I is ML and I'm betting an E bloom season on this well growing clump.
