As a chemist, I don't think that Dawn Soap is the best or only cure-all.
Most any of your dishwashing soaps will work. Better than any of
those, and substantially cheaper, is a plain surfactant (makes water
"wetter") such as L.O.C... which you can get from anyone who markets
Amway products in your area. It is less alkaline than Dawn, doesn't
have a multitude of other reagents and dyes in it and, for people who
have allergic reactions to many products, it is dermatologically tested.
We use it around our house also to help keep the water "wetter" around
our foundation, a real problem in this geographical part of the country
where foundations are prone to cracking and consequently make very
expensive repairs necessary to walls, ceilings and checkbooks.
