An afterthought on the subject of snapped-off bloomstalks. One of the minor tragedies of hybridizing is when the weather or we, ourselves, inadvertantly break off a bloomstalk on a new seedling. But it may not be total disaster. Pop that bloomstalk into a container of water and put it in good light. It may still develop into a flower that will give you pollen, even if the bud is still well within the leaf sheath. Then, you'll get to see your new creation and maybe get some use from it, too.
