AIS: More Newz from Dallas

Kathy Guest here from Dallas where the livin' is easy.

The Board meeting ended late last night and I'm trying to think of the items
of interest to share. Although we meet for many, many hours.... most of what
we do is transparent in that it's the tweaks and jiggles of the machinery to
keep it all in prime condition. But There are the occasional blips that
affect the members. Here are some that I noted:

There was a presentation from the AIS Foundation and consideration by the
Board of what projects could be referred to the Foundation for funding. The
Foundation is looking for worthwhile projects to underwrite. Although this
represents no change, I mention for those who may have a burning desire to
study the life cycle of the borer if the only had the funding.

There was a suggestion that the AIS Bulletins be scanned and made searchable
for ease of research. This would be an excellent project - but it would take
a dedicated volunteer to lead it. Again, this could be YOU.

Paul Gosset reminded us that he has a significant number of AIS Bulletins in
stock from the last few years that can be sent to clubs for the cost of
postage. These are GREAT tools for selling AIS at shows (refer to the AIS
Bulletin for information). Paul also brought 900 Bulletins to the convention
which were quickly snatched up by the RVP's for use in their clubs.

Jim Waddick made a wonderful presentation on the Rare Iris Study Center and
how a member with the proper skill level can apply for rare irises to grow.
(He also gave a presentation on his proposed China trip that I really need to
win that lottery to enable me to go).

There was a proposal that videos (professional) be taken of convention
gardens and offered for sale for those who can't make it to the conventions
live and in person.

Small steps and changes, maybe..... but combined, it all means a better
society for us all.

More when I've had some sleep.

Over and out from AIS - ground zero
