Vince, RVP of Region 3, site of the next AIS convention
sez:
I was at the board meeting when this was brought up, and
talked to Clarence Mahan about it at the convention
planning meeting. AIS has NOT agreed to give any funding
for the video, and has left the decision as to whether or
not to make one up to the convention chairperson. I will be
notifying him of this request. However, I doubt that much
will come of it, due to the cost of getting a professional
video made, with no idea as to how well this would sell.
Please keep in mind that there are 5000 guest irises in 9
gardens in 2 states - it would probably take several days
just to videotape the gardens, plus whatever time it would
take to edit the tape and make copies to sell. I suspect
that the cost of having a professional video would be
daunting. However, if one or more amateur volunteers could
be found to tape some or all of the gardens, this may
become a viable project. Show of hands, please!!!
I find it just as useful to see what irises are doing
poorly as seeing which ones are doing well. This might
present a problem on videotape - casual watchers will not
be interested in seeing stunted plants with no bloom, or
shots of markers where the iris has died. And how about
those that have either finished blooming or have not yet
started at convention time?
Several people have said that they would like to see
convention slides. This would be a more reasonable project
- again, volunteers would be needed to provide slides.
