It is Iris tridentata that I grow here. It is said to be closely
related to Iris setosa. There is are Sunset Zones for Florida, and the rest
of the eastern states listed in the Sunset National Garden Book, but I have
yet to see Zoning for Alaska.
Far southern Florida [basically freeze free] is in Sunset Zone 25. From
there northward and including much of central Florida is Sunset Zone 26,
which is a zone of the occasional freeze. I am in the southern part of
Sunset Zone 28, which is an area in which winter freezes are a certainty, and
they can be frequent. This past season, we have had 33 freezes.
It is Louisiana Irises that appear to appreciate being in areas where
there are alligators...
