Iris and Daylily colors?

i hope someone can help me with this dilemma..

..as i am adding to my iris and daylily collections i often run across descriptions of colors (without photos) of different hues of iris and daylilys..is there a standard basis of color used by hybridizers to describe these flowers..i find a wide variation in for example pinks..purples..etc..frequently a flower i would call rose..is described as orchid or lavender..this only a small example..it can be very confusing when shopping via catalogue with only text description..

any ideas or suggestions..
