OT-CHAT: nature

Totally off topic, except that thanks to the kind responses I've gotten about
the grass in my irises (thanks for the suggestions about weed pulling and my
alpha state, Jim.... but this kid is having a British garden notable
houseguest and I don't have time to pull them all..... and I do like to
weed), I took a flying trip to my favorite nursery to get the chemicals to do
the job. One thing led to another and I spent quite a bit of time there (and
came home with a black pussywillow, cool black/purple lilac called SARAH
SANDS, and a climbing hydrangea), and so when I got home, I ran back to where
I was working..... and suddenly saw a green head looking back at me.

Now, I have a tiny cement lily pond at the back of my lot (that I refer to as
Lake Kathy). It's probably 3 feet across and maybe 7 feet long. It's
CEMENT, fergawd sake. But in my hour long absence, a mallard duck couple
have taken up residence. She's trying to nest in the ivy and he's swimming
(if you could call it that in that tiny space) back and forth.

They look pretty darn silly.... but I'm getting a charge out of it. Now....
I need to find a way to keep the Clampetts's cats out of here.
