Ovation is an iris that tends to disappear after a few seasons. It will grow here although it does tend to be a bit weak and not bloom very often, but when it does it is certainly worth the wait. There a few irises which are hardy. Eramosa Miss is one of my own irises which is hardy. It is apricot pink and is a quite ruffled boarder bearded iris. It comes from a cross of Victoria Frills X Coral Beauty. It has proven to be quite hearty in cold climates and will also do well in warmer situations. Other irises that should do well with hybridizing for hearty pinks are Wench, Good Show, Firebreather, Victorian Frills, Vanity and Master Gardener. Wench is exceptionally hearty and will produce good pinks although may it may take several generations to get rid of the dark purple on the falls. I have been working for some time to produce hearty pinks. There are quite a few cold hearty pinks out there in the garden in the reselect beds. The problem is having these hardy pinks in!
the same room with the Ghio pinks. There are number that may be able to be introduced although they need further evaluation.
There are number of Paul Blacks irises that have Victoria Frills is one of the parents. These could also be good candidates for hybridizing hardy pinks and apricots that. It is also recommend looking at the irises of Linda Miller and Hal Stahly as these two hybridizers are also in colder climates and their plants are exceptionally hardy.
