Yesterday afternoon the Iris Society of Dallas held their early show.
Lately we have tried to have two shows every other year, and this is the
"other" year. Surprisingly,
we had not only medians and arils, but lots of TBs and one spuria. Best TB
and queen of the show was"Miss Piggy", a '97 Tom Burseen iris. Best SDB was
"Jan
Katz" and best blue was "Forever Blue". Not only were these last two
hybridized
by members of iris-talk, the person who grew and entered them was Dell Perry,
also
an iris-talker. She and her son Sean are cochairing both the shows this
year.
Sean is doing this as part of his Eagle scout badge work.
The weather has done it's usual roller coaster act lately. Two weeks ago
today I
drove through a snow storm just across the border in southern Oklahoma.
Then came 2 plus inches of rain; Friday we had 40mph winds; today we turned
on the air
conditioning and got out our shorts. If this very warm weather stays, we
may not have any irises left in two weeks for the other show.
