  Way out in the country where I live, deer are looking for something green to eat during the winter or early spring when there is very little green in nature for them.  That is the time they approach the house and go for the tulips, azaleas, irises, daylilies, roses and barberry shrubs.  Rarely, after things have greened up do I see a deer.

   Since red-hot peppers don't grow in the winter when deer abound, I use mothballs and bloodmeal in areas were deer frequent.  These have worked fairly well.
