Even though we have been growing iris for 40 years, the first iris to
bloom is always exciting to find. Unlike previous years, today we have a
species which we have grown from seed, open for the first time. It is
rather greenish and very small. The parents are (pseudo pumila Italy X I
attica selfed) The perky upright standards are wider than the falls and
waved. The falls have a more intense green in the center, and a narrow
white beard (of sorts) and are tucked. No pollen. Darn!
We are pulling weeds like mad! But have nearly all 34 beds of iris
clean. Bring on the bloom!!! We are ready!
