I have not done much hybridizing. Kind of like to do things my way. If that doesn't work I try someone's else's way.
My main problem is poor germination. Last years seeds were watered all winter, something I haven't done in the past. I will see if this works.
I plant seeds in pots with store bought potting soil in December.
When my seedlings get about 1 1/2" to 2" I transplant into 6" pots. I make my own potting soil. 1/2 compost / 14 peat / 1/4 sand. On the bottom of pot I put 1 1/2" to 2" of well rotted manuer. Usually horse but any should work as long as it is well rotted.
Several weeks ago I posted about having a SDB seedling with 18 increases. Must have been one of those SM's. Did a recount to day. Sunny today thought I was in Florida.
I just counted between 31 and 33 so tight it was hard to count them. This is on a Little Showoff X Lumilite seedling that is 11 months old. This is the second year I have tried this and have gotten first year bloom on 60% of TB's an great increase on 80% of all seedlings. I only have about 125 seedlings.
I had 5 month bloom on about 5 SDB seedlings and stalks that froze out on several others.
Works for me
