Re: Re: OT-CHAT: fringed ended mystery bug

Steve,
That is so neat. I often plant things just for the caterillars.
that wll give me some new ideas to draw different ones to the garden.

Just looking for a place to tag this in that I just got from the Scout
Report. Thought it might be helpful, though perhaps not in this particular
case, since this does not seem to be a caterpillar.

  Caterpillar Hostplants Database
  http://www.nhm.ac.uk/entomology/hostplants/

This database from the Department of Entomology at the Natural History
Museum, London contains information on worldwide caterpillar hostplants. It
consolidates a large amount of data on plants that the 22,000 Lepidoptera
species eat or otherwise interact with. Users can perform searches using
scientific name of either the Lepidoptera or hostplant species, or perform a
"drill-down" browse. Search results include the family, genus, and species
names for both the Lepidoptera and hostplant; author of the primary
literature; and additional information that includes location where the
species is found and plant damage resulting from interaction.

  Hi Linda,
I will keep an eye out for one. They do not show up every year like other
hoppers. Just imagine a big yellow fishing hopper, you know the ones the
fish love in August, make it 6 X's bigger and more of a squared up shape.
Drab grey in color and you've got it. A real eating machine.
