TB: Double Dribble and others

Lots of iris blooming now. My new beds are just getting started, but my
established beds are peaking for the early stuff. Epicenter has about 30
stalks, and the first few of a similar number of Rock Stars are open. Lots
of Pagan Pink show stalks. Skipalong is up and lovely. Select Circle looks
lighter than usual and smaller this year for some reason. Too many othersa
to mention.

In the new beds, Double Dribble is in full bloom. A recent favorite (2000
Ghio), it is a deep blue (with a purple tint) with a lovely luminata-type
pattern of soft white veins radiating down from the beard. It has clean
foliage and excellent stalks. Many of the stalks this year are doubles from
the same rhizome (though not "pineappled"). I do not know if this is
typical of the variety; my 2 stalks last year were single. Nice form, I
didn't remember it being as ruffled as it looks this year (not especially
so, but satisfying enough). Excellent iris, one of my very favorites. I
cut one prime stalk this morning for my daughter's preschool (one way to
promote iris, it sits on the front table and greets the parents). I hope I
have a good stalk for the San Fernando Valley show this weekend, but I'm not
counting on it. Bye Bye Blues looks like my best bet for a prime specimen.
