RE:Cult-moving

A note of caution re moving iris plants from a protected environment into the garden. One year I lost a lot of potted iris that were growing well inside an attatched garage, in a window. I put the pots outside and didn't bring them in during a cold night and the frost killed almost all of the plants. They grow according to the climate they are exposed to. In an environment that is warmer then outside, garden conditions, eg; greenhouse, cold frame, garage etc, the plants will be farther ahead in growth and may not be able to withstand a hard frost. I would generally recommend waiting untill you are past danger of a killing frost or provided protection if a hard frost is forcast.
Iris plants tolerate very cold weather when they are dormant, but when in active growth they can be damaged by a hard frost.
