CULT: Love the Sun

Speaking of those gorgeous Blyth babies that are often tempermental in
our climate, LOVE THE SUN sure is tough as nails. I put the chunk I
bought in full bloom last year (bloomstalk, mother rhizome, two little
baby fans) in a bucket with some sand in the bottom and a brick on top
of the rhizome to keep it from tipping over. I forgot about it and left
it that way for way too long. It was in the shade, and every now and
then it got rained on. By the time I got around to planting it, the
remnants were nearly dead, slimy and pretty nasty. I went ahead and
planted the pieces, but assumed the little slimy bits wouldn't survive
so mail ordered a healthy rhizome. The little slimy bits went on to be
nice sized fans and the store-bought plant has a very healthy looking
bloomstalk.
