Re: Re: HYB: Guest seedlings

I'd love to see a picture of this, Linda. In lieu of a picture, how about giving us a description. What color is it? I'm proud that you are going to send it to the convention. That is one I hope to go to. Right now I am growing 157 guest irises that I'm growing for the region 15 spring treck next year. Some are wonderful. Some doesn't seem to be as good as some of my seedlings. But the hybridizers shouldn't be ashamed of any of them. That's what guest gardens are for, to see how they do in different environments.
Some of my seedlings are blooming now. What mind blowing excitement! I've been busy pollen daubing, of course, even though it's been too hot and next year I will have no room to plant anything. It's still exciting to see the green pods form. I guess it doesn't take much to excite an iris lover.

<Well Linda, do you think it will grow in ideal conditions? >

That certainly is the question, & the one thing I can't evaluate here.
I feel confidant the plant will grow, but have no idea what kind of
stalks it would produce. Wonder if Schreiner's or Maryott would test it
  for me <g>.

How do the parents (CELEBRATION SONG & IMMORTALITY) behave in Fresno?

I know that CELEBRATION SONG has problems (i.e., death) in some parts of
the country, & know from my own experience that IMMORTALITY can
sometimes be fussy about getting established. So who knows. Only one
  way to find out ....

<g> This is a switch for me, asking how something performs in
  California!
