Cult: Sulphur in the Soil

Last year I put some excess rhizomes at my 'other place'. The soil is
black, sandy, mucky, and looks like clay mixed in. (actully, pretty
gross). Also I kind of neglected them.
Still, they grew huge rhizomes and flowers and seem to be very
happy. No rot; no borers, leaf spot etc.

My 'home base' has nice brown loamy 'forest' type soil.
But I had all the problems listed above.

At the 'other place', there is alot of sulphur and most likely other
minerals in the water.
Does anyone know if sulphur is beneficial to iris?

thanks,
Laetitia
