Welcome Carol, I'm not far from you and my garden was a wheat field first !!
There are several KC area folks on the list that can really be of help. When
I started planting iris I discovered the iris didn't need much additional
fertilizer to start with. I learned the hard way, lots of soft rot the first
year. The soil is new to the iris so most nutrients are still present. The
best advice I can give is have the soil tested before you add anything.
