Neil (others), do you think this could have anything to do with
increased fertility in seedlings from wide crosses (dissimilar
colors/patterns, very distant breeding lines) in tetraploid TBs as
well?  Make that increased germination rates.

I keep thinking of those photos of mismatched chromosomes in bearded
iris species.....
