Yes, the commonly accepted 'wisdom' is for first-year peonies to
not bloom. I have never ordered from Wild but have had great
luck with first year bloom from Caprice Nursery in Oregon - and
for first year bloom in USDA Zone 3.

About 17 or so years ago, I bought some discount peonies for
$1.00 and it took four (or maybe it was five) years to see a
bud!
