CULT: vale of despair...oops

(misdirected this message - try again..)

Well.... as far as I can tell, there was no hail here last night. And
at least it did rain, finally.

Betty, did you escape damage?

Yesterday, I noticed fans lying on the ground in one part of the gravel
rows, got poking around, thought I had borers again (this would be the
2nd time in 35 yrs here), then found three of the biggest fattest
cutworms I've ever seen! All were chewing their way thru fan bases.
Never did find any typical borer jagged leaf edges, or any signs of
damage below about a half inch above the ground level. Still not
positive it's all cutworm damage tho. I had no idea cutworms could do
such damage to mature irises. Where is that old bag of BT powder....

And now the forecast is for lows around 24oF over the weekend. I may
try to cover the seedlings that haven't bloomed yet, but don't have the
energy to try to cover everything. Time for some seedling
selection....and to let ma nature force me to work more on those ML
bloomers again.
