Did a garden walk through yesterday with an iris friend. It is bad. The
fallen stalks must number in the thousands. Lots of foot high stalks crumpled
and limp. In my 2nd year seedlings my friend would count . . . "look you had
one, two, three, four stalks on this one!"

There were a few bright spots. One 1st year seedling in my kitchen sink
reblooming cross (Visiting Royalty x Summer Radiance) X ((Gallant Moment x Feed
Back) x Tara's Choice) that has a stalk in the fan and no obvious signs of
freeze damage. Another in the 2nd year seedlings that has at least two stalks
in the fans. A cross with exceptional substance in the blooms. Nothing
showing above the fan yet. Same type of stalks in IMMORTALITY. Something to
watch!

Iris beds cover an area 150 foot wide by 70 foot deep. <vbg>

I'll be quick to catch any signs of new stalks emerging.

Foliar damage is scattered with obvious damage being revealed more with the
rain, heat, and bright sunshine. No additives applied in 2007. It was all
mother nature. Some seedlings are collapsing in the germination pots, but far
from total destruction.
