CULT: old friend in bloom

One of the first irises I received after joining AIS in ~ 1985 was the SDB BLITZ. It bloomed well until trees shaded the bed. It was in dense shade until last year, and while there are still a few iris fans in that bed, I assumed they are all TBs.

I was astonished to see it blooming yesterday. It has been buried under a pretty thick mulch of leaves every year.

It was one of my favorites years ago, and I kept meaning to replace it. Such a nice surprise and terrific way to start bloom season.

Lots of stalks starting to form in seedlings from crosses I haven't seen yet. Can hardly wait.
