HYB:REB:classification
Works for me!? Espeically, since your primary characteristics/concerns seem?divided along those lines.? ?All of the other classes seem more closely connected (to me,) with the cycle rebloomers being rather different.??
Spring & Cycle rebloom are?not triggered by rhizome size, except in the sense that it won't bloom if the rhizome is not mature enough.? (size will vary with cultivar.)?
Your primary concerns with the NON-Cycle rebloomers are--?
1) Fan to bloom stalk ration.
2) Not knowing when they are going to rebloom.
3) lack of rebloom.
4) all of the above
5) other?
My primary concern with CYCLE rebloomers are. . .
1)? They may require too many triggers.? They aren't real dependable either.
2)? They don't bloom early enough in the fall.? Too likely to be knocked out by a freeze.? 2004 was great, but once every 10 years??
In an ideal situation, I"d like irises of all colors and patterns which start blooming in late August or Sept 1 at the latest (without fail)?and bloom until a very hard freeze, then recover and bloom again in the spring.?
How do we get there??
<<their attempts to rebloom sure?
seem to be more reliable than summer/ever/repeat/"other" [Betty, how?
about I call them non-cycle?] rebloomers. They get frozen out here?
nearly every year, but (assuming they do reasonably well here) at least?
I can see they <tried> to produce stalks both spring and fall.?>>
