RE: thrips and pollen

Hi Linda,

I haven't experienced this on my iris, but I use Neem oil for the thrips
on my violets. If I remember to keep the water warm, it doesn't harm
the blossoms at all. If the water is a bit cold, I get water spots on
the blossoms.

Subject: [iris] thrips and pollen

Fellow iris fanatics,
I'm curious if any of you are experiencing this: I went to collect
pollen from
SDB's and found that it had been stripped bare. What was there instead
was an
abundance of thrips. Since I'd tried my collecting after work, I thought
I
might just have to beat them to it. I collected several unopened buds
that I
believed would be ready to pop open in the morning. When I opened them
up this
morning, that pollen, too, had been stripped--and I mean ALL gone. About
a
week ago when I had my first open blooms they had pollen. It seems the
thrips
just moved in.
I'd love to know if any of you are experiencing this and would
especially know
if there's a solution. I am reluctant to spray anything on the newly
opening
buds for fear that it will destroy the bloom.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts!
Linda Stirling, Camas, WA
