Hints:
The best tool for cutting a stalk is a sharp paring knife. Grasp the
stalk by the terminal spathe with one hand & cut at the base of the stalk with
the other. You can always cut off part of the stalk if it's a little too
tall for good proportion, but you can't add any! Avoid touching the stalk,
except at the very base.
Know the heights for the classes of irises! Border Bearded & IBs should
be less than 27 1/2 inches. If they are growing too tall in your garden, be
sure and trim off some of the bottom of the stalk to make them proper
height for the show.
