Scarlett -- Basagran does kill nutsedge without harming the irises, but after the first die-off of the nutsedge, another, sparser crop will probably emerge. The second application of Basagran should be all that's needed for the season. The sedge will be back the next year, though, so it's a game of control, not elimination, in my experience. -- Griff

Does it take one application or many application over several years. I want to put in a new iris bedin a location where there is Bermuda and nut grass. I am quite happy to dig
out the Bermuda, but the nut grass is a problem. I usually get rid of nut grass in small areas by digging up the soil and throwing it away (into the grass, hence the problem). Though for such a large area, my plan is to dig out the Bermuda, then cover the area with plastic for least a year. I had Trugreen for awhile. They knocked the nut grass out but it always came back stronger. Scarlett In a message dated 3/25/2012 4:31:02 P.M. Vantage won't get Sedges ( nut grass ) though, so I use Basagram for the sedges. Leslie Jobe Zanesville, Ohio In a message dated 3/25/2012 4:57:12 P.M. Once I decide where the bed is and isn't I'm going to spray the heck out of it. Thanks!! Barb in SW MO----- Original Message ----- From: "Robin Shadlow" <rshadlow@yahoo.com>

Yes only grass, but I would recommend it over roundup. My aim is not
as
good as my optimism. I have deformed plenty of bloom in my day. Stinger is really good for thistles and clover too. It didn't kill the grass here though. Maybe it hasn't been warm enough here to tell though. No heatwave in the NW. I've also been told Envoy works on grass and is safe for irises. I haven't tried it yet though. If you hvae a mixedbed, you may want to check the label. I never saw any damage to the irises. It works the best in early spring.
