Re: rot, older varieties, carefree iris, HIPS, new AIS awards?


I agree with this posting about awards for certain iris.  The AHS has awards
that seem to be named for and based on a particular hybridizer's goals.
If one breeds specifically for arils (maybe there is one already) or for
rot resistance, or for long livers, maybe someone can endow the AIS and name
an award.  THEN, the cultivar can be advertised for the micro climate, perhaps.
In any case, some marketing effort should be made to emphasize these aspects
A Region already has the option of establishing its own award for anything it
chooses.  Best Grower in the Shade... so does a local organization .. THEN
it's a marketing effort to let everyone know the results.
And a subscription to this LIST should be attached to every membership in AIS.
