Yes, this is surely the problem. The iris seeds were in a heated coldframe,
in a rather shaded part of the yard. The heat was to encourage earlier
germination. It worked, but did create a rolypoly heaven between the walls
of the cold frame. Now that the seedlings have germinated, I've moved
them out in the open.
