Re: bloomout

Regarding bloomout, I have never observed this in my climate but I had a
similar but different (if you know what I mean) :-) event last year. I
planted many new rhizomes from two commercial nurseries and everything
seemed to be just fine. Then one started looking sickly and it looked to me
like it was dying which I didn't like at all, because it was one I was
especially anxious to grow. It's always the good ones isn't it? Anyway, I
investigated and it looked to me like bacterial rot, all mush, so I cleaned
it off and I thought all was lost. Later on however three little itty bitty
rhizomes appearred alongside the big fat dead one. So, here's hoping those
itty bitty teeny things overwintered. The idea of cutting a scape if it
appears demise is imminent sounds to me to have merit, based on the above.

Still snow here but we are supposed to reach 50's in couple days then just
watch the snow melt away. It's been 8 and a half months since we saw bare
earth.
