kirsten - hello.  in my opinion, nothing beats the old species iris, I.
pallida for fragrance.  another variety many people recommend is SOUTHLAND
GRAPE.  and i think LEDA'S LOVER is supposed to be exceptionally fragrant.  i
have learned i am not very successful at detecting some fragrances, but these
are the ones i know about.
