Re: Winter Kill?

Gunnar, I have seen what water can do to the root system. It seems to me
that there are two types of roots, or rather some plants can adapt to wet and
not so wet environments. The wet environment has more of the one cell root
hairs, but the dryer grown have a coarser root system. I once grew a plant
in water for a year and it did well, but when I took it out and planted it
, it was stunted for weeks. I thought it was going to die.
The Document I mentioned about Seed Germination, The good doctor
Deno sent me an update card. I think the 15$ american is for the update
only. I Dont know how much the whole document is. The adress will be the
same. Dr Deno Studys and explains things from a Chemist Point of view. His
methods can be adapted to what you need to use . I dont much care for his
paper towell and plastic bag method. But He was trying to get as much data
as he could in as little time as he could. I dont think he has thousands of
plants to show for his work. I do think he knows what he is doing. The
chemistry point of view is interesting. It explained a lot to me> I have
had a lot of chemistry classes over the years. The chemistry explains why
some of the seed act the way they do. Though they can not really be
predicted, just studied. His work with cacti will be very important to the
U.S.A. It seems that cacti have evolved a dual system if not a requirement
to gibberelic acid 3, for germination. This plant hormone (auxin)
what-ever, is produced by many fungus in the soil. Many of these cati
require it. Makes sense. The seed either require light for germination or,
orrrrrrrrr , The seed is buried by sand or soil and can not recieve
the light. The Gibberelic Acid-3 overcomes the light requirement. I have
found that if the seed is buried too deep, the seed does not have enough
stored food to grow to the light. So much for hormones right. As
for my bed time. I work till 2400 hours, do not get home untill 0100 hours.
this is the only time I get my peace. My little children are asleep now.

                               Good morn Lonnie
